Uralkali Haas F1 Team proudly supports FIA Safe & Affordable Helmet Program
November 6, 2021Ahead of the 2021 Mexico City Grand Prix, Uralkali Haas F1 Team and drivers Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher proudly showed their support to the FIA Safe & Affordable Helmet Program, displaying custom designed helmets to help promote the use of vital head protection for motorcycle users.
The initiative, organised by the FIA with the support of the FIA Foundation and the Keep Fighting Foundation, extended to Mexico with the distribution of UN-standard helmets in multiple regions. Wearing correct head protection can reduce the number of head injuries by nearly half, highlighting the necessity for policymakers to create reasonably priced helmets accessible to all.
Mazepin, whose design is a nod to his 2021 FIA Formula 1 World Championship helmet, believes the initiative will go on to help protect the lives of many now, as well as in the future. “As Formula 1 drivers, we’re incredibly lucky to have platforms that can reach a lot of people and help spread vital messages, and to me this is a very important one to support. I’d like to thank the FIA for leading the charge in protecting those in the cities we race in and creating a positive, lasting legacy for years to come.”
Schumacher’s helmet showcased the Keep Fighting Foundation’s logo, the red dragon, a symbol of power and strength. The Keep Fighting Foundation – inaugural partner of the FIA affordable & safe helmet programme – also donated 2,600 helmets to Mexico.
“Every motorcycle rider and passenger should wear a quality protective helmet. Yet, here in Mexico many motorcyclists ride unprotected. Helmets save lives and prevent serious head injuries. All decision-makers need to ensure that only high-quality helmets are available on the market. The FIA and its partners are showing that it’s possible to produce affordable helmets which meet UN recommended standard for protection. There are no excuses, all lives are precious. I really encourage all of you to get involved in this project and support its ambitious goal,” Schumacher said.
Guenther Steiner, Team Principal of Uralkali Haas F1 Team, said: “Uralkali Haas F1 Team is honored to participate in the FIA Safe & Affordable Helmet Program. Formula 1 travels the world, and when visiting cities, you still see a lot of riders not wearing the correct – or even any – protective headwear, showing how crucial and relevant the message to make affordable head protection available is. I’m sure when we return next year, we will see the positive results from the FIA Safe & Affordable Helmet Program on the roads on Mexico.”
