Our top pictures from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
November 3, 2020Have a look through our favorite images from the weekend, as we visited Imola for the very first time for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
What do you think of Imola, Romain? The thumbs up said it all. Romain completes the Friday track walk with his engineers, on his first visit to the circuit in nine years.
Remembering a legend: Test and reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi visits the memorial to fellow Brazilian and Formula 1 icon Ayrton Senna, who tragically lost his life in a fatal accident at Imola in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
Imola, ti amo: Romain climbs up the hill from turns nine and ten, AKA. Acque Minerali, during his install lap on Saturday morning’s practice session, the only one of the race weekend.
Tree-lined streets: Located within Imola’s Parco Acque Minerali, the 3-mile circuit is surrounded by greenery, making it one of this season’s more topiary-rich tracks. Here Kevin passes up the back-straight in Free Practice.
Jostling for space: With there only being 90-minutes preparation time on an unfamiliar circuit before qualifying, teams got as much running time as possible, with Romain and Kevin completing a combined 87 laps. Of course it meant at times track space was at a premium! Here Romain jostles for track space with Racing Point’s Lance Stroll, while in the background Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton is closely followed by Kevin.
No time for sightseeing! Kevin heads down the back straight during qualifying with Imola town providing the backdrop. Unfortunately, both Romain and Kevin were eliminated in Q1, qualifying 16th and 17th respectively.
Weekly grid commute: Garage electrician Dane and mechanics Karl, Joe and Brian complete the regular Sunday traipse to the grid, armed with cooling fans for the cars.
Room with a view: Although no fans were allowed into the circuit for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix due to Coronavirus restrictions, the odd lucky few who owned properties overlooking the circuit were able to enjoy the first Formula 1 race at Imola in 14 years on Sunday afternoon.
Box, box, box! The team get to work on Kevin’s car in his one and only pit stop of the race, before his unfortunate retirement on lap 47 with gearbox issues.
