Haas F1 Team wins the 2021 Virtual Grand Prix Series
February 14, 2021Haas F1 Team secured the 2021 Formula 1 Virtual Grand Prix series with a double top-five finish at the Brazilian Virtual GP.
Brothers Enzo and Pietro Fittipaldi, AKA The FittiForce, came home in second and fifth respectively at their home circuit of Interlagos, in Sao Paulo. The result ensured Haas F1 Team finished top of the team standings on 85 points, 23 clear of Ferrari Driver Academy Esports.
Victory at the Red Bull Ring for Enzo, the first of three Virtual Grands Prix in the series, put Haas in the driving seat in the Championship.
Then last week Pietro took fourth, one place ahead of his younger brother, at the British Virtual Grand Prix ensuring another strong result tonight would ensure victory in the Team Championship.
The Brazilian duo rose up from their grid spots, with Enzo finishing just a few seconds short of Williams’ George Russell, who sealed his second win in a row in the Virtual GP series.
Championship victory ensured Haas F1 Team pocketed $20,000, which will be donated to chosen charity the Grand Prix Trust.
For over three decades the Grand Prix Trust has provided support for Formula 1’s unsung heroes helping team personnel to put their lives back on track when things go wrong.
After the race Pietro, who deputised for Haas F1 Team in both the Sakhir and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix in December 2020 said: “It’s been really fun to do these Virtual GPs and it’s been really fun to train with my brother. I’m really happy to contribute to a good cause in the Grand Prix Trust too.
“I want to thank Haas F1 Team for letting us do this and for inviting my brother as well – it was really cool to do it with Enzo and something I’ll remember for sure.”
Enzo, who also won the Virtual Grand Prix Drivers’ Championship, added: “We had three really good races and being team-mate with my brother, it’s been really fun. We have great chemistry and teamwork as brothers.”
