Haas F1 Team Esports Set for Action
October 14, 2020The 2020 F1 Esports Pro Series kicks off Oct.14-15 with Haas F1 Team Esports fielding a new-look line-up for the third season of online competition in which all 10 teams competing in the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship are represented.
From a record breaking 237,000 participants who attempted to qualify for this year’s championship, Haas F1 Team Esports has selected Floris Wijers – who raced for the squad in 2019, alongside team newcomers Cedric Thomé and Simon Weigang – both of whom, along with Wijers, competed for the team earlier in the year in the Formula 1 Virtual Grand Prix series.
Wijers (21) from The Netherlands returns to the F1 Esports Pro Series keen to build on his 2019 campaign. The Dutchman had a best finish of seventh in China for Haas last season from a total of 12 race starts. Cedric Thomé (22) switches to Haas F1 Team Esports this season having competed for Renault Sport Team Vitality in 2019’s Pro Series – his victory in Canada the highlight of the German’s Esports career to-date. Finally, Haas F1 Team Esports’ 2020 Pro Draft pick was Simon Weigang (23). The German was a stablemate to Thomé last season with points finishes in three of his four race starts.
The 2020 F1 Esports Pro Series starts this week with Event 1 taking in a triple-header comprising Bahrain (Bahrain International Circuit), Vietnam (Hanoi Street Circuit) and China (Shanghai International Circuit). The remaining calendar dates are – Event 2; Nov.4-5, Event 3; Nov.18-19, and the Grand Final; Dec.16-17.
All competitors this year will be racing remotely from their homes in light of the on-going COVID pandemic. Fans can follow the online action across a host of platforms – primarily Formula 1’s social media channels (Facebook, YouTube, Twitch and Huya) with select TV broadcast partners showcasing events.
