After a busy pre-season testing schedule, the 2025 F1 Academy season officially commences this weekend at the Chinese Grand Prix – Round 2 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, March 21-23. With all ten F1 teams enjoying representation in the all-female single-seater racing series, MoneyGram Haas F1 Team looks forward to the debut of its latest ambassador in the Formula 4-level championship, California’s Courtney Crone.

The 24-year-old from Corona was announced as MoneyGram Haas F1 Team’s driver for 2025 last November at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Crone, with one previous F1 Academy weekend start to her name – as a Wild Card entry at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, will compete for ART Grand Prix with full MoneyGram Haas F1 Team branding – across both her race car livery and driver overalls.

The seven-round 2025 F1 Academy campaign will visit three continents, including first-time appearances in Montreal, Canada and Las Vegas, USA, with all rounds in support of the Formula 1 World Championship.

Crone began karting at only three years old, and currently competes in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North American Championship. Her experience spans multiple disciplines, racing speedway motorcycles, dirt and pavement USAC Midget and Sprint Cars, LMP3 prototypes, and various junior Formula Cars.

The American’s most notable achievements include winning the 2023/2024 IMSA Diverse Driver Development Scholarship and the 2021 Gorsline Company Scholarship. She is also a three-time winner of the Women’s Sports Foundation / Project Podium with Lyn St. James award (2016, 2017, 2018), and a three-time VMB Driver Development scholarship winner (2017, 2018, 2020).

We caught up with Courtney before she flew out to the Shanghai International Circuit ahead of this weekend’s first double-header event in China:

You were announced as the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team driver for the 2025 F1 Academy in Las Vegas last year – what was the reception to the news and what’s the build up to the new season been like for you?

CC: After it was announced that I would be joining the MoneyGram Haas F1 team for the F1 Academy season, I received a lot of messages not only from friends and people I know, but it reached so many more people than what I thought was possible! And along with that has come a lot more media, and I upped my training during the off-season and it feels really like no days off. But I like that.

F1 Academy pre-season testing concluded in China last week – how was it for you and what are the key learnings you’ve taken from testing?

CC: Every day that I get to be in the car is a good day, just adjusting to all the new things that are coming at me. Having teammates that are already in their second year of the F1 Academy and multiple years of F4 experience has for sure helped speed up my learning process.

You’ll be competing with ART Grand Prix under the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team banner – though you first raced with the team in a one-off F1 Academy race in Miami last year. What standouts for you with the team and their pedigree in the series?

CC: When I did Miami last year with Prema I was really impressed with the amount of detail the formula car teams had and how the process of the weekend goes. So, joining ART Grand Prix I’m really looking forward to immersing myself for the whole year in the process and soaking up as much knowledge as I can to hopefully carry with me for many years to come in racing.

You’re obviously familiar with many of your rivals this season – how do you rate the overall line-up in F1 Academy?

CC: I definitely feel the F1 Academy has done a great job at picking the best and most promising young female talent from around the globe. Their achievements up until this point speaks for themself. I’m grateful that my hard work has paid off to be one of them.

You’re one of three American drivers in the F1 Academy line-up. What does it mean to you to be representing your country in what is a truly global series?

CC: To represent the USA not only in the F1 Academy, but also alongside the MoneyGram Haas F1 team is a dream come true. Motorsports has such a passionate fan base here, and being one of only three Americans is something I take a lot of pride in. It will be exciting to showcase the American talent this season and hopefully inspire the next generation back at home.

Which races on the 2025 F1 Academy line-up are you most looking forward to and why?

CC: Las Vegas is the one I’m most excited for, a home race only a couple hours away from where I live in California will be a great way to end the season.

The opening round in China will be your first opportunity to spend some time with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team drivers Ollie Bearman and Esteban Ocon and the team in general – what do you hope to extract from being able to interact with the F1 drivers and the team throughout the season that can assist with your race program?

CC: Having spent most of my career racing in North America, I’m excited to see how the process works within the Formula 1 team to extract the maximum out of a weekend. How do things compare from racing in America, and how can I implement that into my own general weekends to get the maximum out of myself.

As a rookie in F1 Academy – what are your hopes for the season ahead?

CC: The main goal is to get as many points as possible, of course. But consistent growth through the year is what it is going to take to achieve that and setting realistic expectations for myself every weekend.
