2018 Raft Race Preview: Team Captain Tells All
June 5, 2018KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- With just a few days remaining until the 2018 edition of the Great Montreal Raft Race, we caught up with Haas F1 Team's raft captain to review strategy and dish details of raft team training and the drafting process, among other hot topics.
Below, you’ll meet Pete Crolla, who has taken on the team captain role and is responsible for leading our rafters to the finish line.
How did you draft your team?
"Panic, desperation and a group WhatsApp!"
What is the team's strategy for the raft race?
"I feel my individual strategy is a winner: turn up, build raft, don't drown, look cool, go home with the prom queen!"
What challenges do you expect to face during the raft race on Saturday?
"We could face a variety of challenges on the course, such as sinking, drowning, the inability to understand basic instructions and, of course, sabotage!"
How has the team trained and prepared so far?
"A strict regimen of maple syrup, moose steaks, and Diet Coke ... and Dom did some press ups."
What upgrades are you bringing to your 2018 raft?
"We won't know what's possible until we see the kits provided by the organizers on Saturday night in Montreal, but we do have a new team member compared to our 2017 roster and, of course, a new mascot for 2018 - and our new mascot is looking super fly!"
What would it mean to end up on the podium?
"The prolonging of an exhausting evening already compounded by listening to Will Buxton's commentary from the shoreline!"
